-Always wear safety gloves when working with files.
-Always use a file with a handle to avoid hand injury and make sure the handle is firmly attached. This improves control of the tool.
-Always hold the file handle in one hand and the point in the other.
-Always use a file card brush to clean the file during and after use. Filing creates heat and small sharp debris. Cleaning by hand can cause severe hand injury.
-Do not use a file as a pry bar or chisel and do not hammer on a file. Files are brittle and can shatter easily and cause flying debris.
